Interesting Facts
Iran is located in the territory of former Persia, which during the beginning of civilization was a huge empire together with the Greek Empire.
In 651 A.D., Iran was conquered by Muslim Arabs and had a crucial role in what was called the Islamic Golden Age, originating influential scientists, thinkers, and artists.
Persian is the official language of Iran and it is spoken in Afghanistan, in Tajikistan, and by minorities in Iraq and Uzbekistan. Despite being called Persian in the West, each country names the language differently. In Iran, it is called Farsi (فارسی), in Afghanistan it is called Dari ( دربار), and in Tajikistan it is called Tajik (тоҷикӣ).
In spite of its different names, the language has kept the same writing system for over a millennium, which allows Modern Persian translators to translate texts from Old Persian only making a few adaptations.
Iran is another country that has as main economic activity oil exploration, but unlike Qatar (which we have already talked about here), the country faces difficulties and protests from its population, which is against the government regime, and this recurrent instability does not allow the country to develop as Qatar.

The high point of Iranian cuisine is the Iranian rice or Zereshk Polo, consisting of rice with butter, saffron, barberry (a sour red berry similar to pomegranate seeds), and sugar. Usually this rice is served with chicken that has been cooked in the water where the saffron was dissolved, fried in butter and, lastly, topped with tomato sauce prepared with dried lime.

The main player of the Iranian national team is Mehdi Taremi, wo plays in Porto, in Portugal, since the 2020 season, and who scored 26 goals in 48 matches in the Portuguese team, 20 of which in the Portuguese league. The center forward has been the subject of controversy recently, as he is known for diving to try to draw penalties, and after he had been sent off in a match against Atlético de Madrid in the UEFA Champions League after diving in the penalty area and being considered a simulation by the referee. Nevertheless, Taremi is the main hope of goals for the Iranian national team.
